Obituary of Jeanne Ames

Jeanne Knapp Ames, wife of the late Charles F. Ames, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 27, 2012. The daughter of the late Benjamin and Lea Knapp, she was born in Bridgeport, CT on March 27, 1925 and moved to Glastonbury in 1935. She attended Glastonbury schools and graduated from Glastonbury High in 1942. She was retired from the town of Glastonbury where she worked in the Tax Dept. for many years. Jeanne was an active member of St Paul Church and had volunteered there for many years. She is survived by her son Charles F. Ames Jr and his wife Carol of Leland, North Carolina and her daughter Betsy Susat and her husband Jon of Glastonbury, with whom she made her home. She leaves 4 grandchildren, Matthew Ames of Baltimore Maryland, Richard Susat and his wife Nichole of South Windsor, Kathleen Susat of Groton, and Melissa Scotti and her husband Jack of New York City. She leaves a Sister- in- law Barbara Hartenstein and her husband Al of Glastonbury. She also leaves her best friend and companion "Snowy" who was always by her side. She was predeceased by 3 sisters, Dorothy Harrington, Mildred Roman and Marilyn Jackson. She also leaves a niece Susan Forsyth and her family. The family would like to thank her caregivers and friends, Claire and Kathy, for their many years of compassion and kindness. Funeral service will be Thursday, Jan. 3, 10:15am from the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury to St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Burial will follow in Green Cemetery, Glastonbury. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday Jan. 2, from 4-6pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury or to the Glastonbury Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 453, Glastonbury, CT. 06033.
