I tried to post this on Frank's obituary page, but apparently without success.
I was a college student working a summer job at the NIBCO warehouse near Brainard Field in the early 1970's when I met Frank. (He was our supervisor). I liked the guy from the minute I met him. He was not only an impressive athlete (in great shape and a former minor-league baseball player), but a brilliant intellectual---not what you would expect in a warehouse supervisor. Once he learned we shared a deep interest in the novels of James Joyce, he brought in to work his collection of audio tapes of Joyce's works read by Richard Burton and other professional actors and played them for us for hours each day as we loaded and unloaded trucks. It was certainly a unique experience!
I'm happy---but not surprised---that Frank had such a rich life and so many devoted friends. It makes me happy just to think of him.
