Obituary of Thomas Finocchiaro
Thomas Finocchiaro, 73, of South Glastonbury passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2020 surrounded by family and dear friend's at Glastonbury Health Care.
Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Constance (Pantano) Finocchiaro. Thomas has been a South Glastonbury resident most of his life. He was the owner/operator of the Ye Olde Barber Shop in South Glastonbury for many years. Tom began barbering at the age of 16 with his father, who founded Ye Olde Barber Shop in the mid 1950’s. As the business grew, Tom took on Dave Taylor. The two of them stood side by side for the next 50 years as partners in the business and best friends. The Ye Olde Barber Shop continues to operate with the third generation of the Finocchiaro family to this day, over 70 years since its inception. Tom was a member of the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury, Elks Club member and a proud member of the Matson Hill Community Club.
He grew up in South Glastonbury swimming in Cotton Hollow, skating on Pond Pasture and raising mischief with his many childhood friends. A favorite of his was attending the annual Grange Fair where he was the only two time champion of the grease pole climbing competition. Tom cherished Nayaug so much he chose to raise his family there.
Tom was an avid fisherman who loved taking his grandchildren to Eastbury Pond and Roaring Brook. Tom loved to spend the month of September down on the Rhode Island shore clamming, blue crabbing and hosting friends and family. Tom also loved golf and had fond memories of attending the Masters in 2014 with his son. Tom was a life long gambler who loved poker games at the Club, throwing the dice and most of all betting on the ponies.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law Mark and Kim Finocchiaro of South Glastonbury, his daughter and son-in-law Amy and Mike Beach of Glastonbury, his grandchildren; Megan and Kevin Finocchiaro, Miranda, Thomas and Talia Beach, his two sisters and brothers-in-law; Rosary and Joe Blais of Hartford, Carrie and Brad Holman of Windham and several nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his son Gregory Finocchiaro.
The family would like to thank all of the friends who supported us throughout this difficult time. Also a special thank you to the wonderful caregivers at the Glastonbury Health Care: Doris, LaSandra, Marina, Carol, Shay, Susan, Rita, Josh, Tom and many others. Their love and compassion was remarkable!
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury, 949 Main St., South Glastonbury. Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Glastonbury next to his son. Friends may call on Monday, March 16, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
