Obituary of Barbara L. Hickey

Barbara L. Hickey, 94, of Vero Beach, FL and Glastonbury, CT passed away peacefully Saturday November 30th 2019 at the Marlborough Health Care Center. She was the widow of William E. Hickey, Sr.  She was born in Pittsburgh, PA , the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Marshall) Welch.  Barbara and her husband Bill were the proud owners of Hickey Enterprises where she was well known for her expertise in floor coverings and oriental rugs. They traveled the world together and Barbara left her mark on many people, especially her family.  If you ever needed anything, all you had to do was walk through the door and she just knew it. Barbara was an avid lover of both birds and cats. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Jiovo of Glastonbury; her step son William E. Hickey, Jr. and his wife Judy of Fairfield, Iowa. Her grandchildren Jennifer Kessler and husband Kevin, Katharine Wiendl and husband Kenny all of Glastonbury; Sean Hickey of Fairfield Iowa; William E. Hickey III and wife Mary of Prescott AZ. Three great grandchildren Ashley Kessler and Fiancé Tim; TJ Kessler and Cooper Hickey. She leaves her second family in Vero Beach, FL Joe Monaghan, her companion for many years; her dear friend Susan Markum and all the girls. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son in law Joseph J. Jiovo, her aunts Margaret and Irean Marshall and her uncle Charles Marshall. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday at 6:00 pm at the Mulryan Funeral Home 725 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury.  Family and friends may call prior to the service from 4-6 pm. A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
