Obituary of Matilda Butala

Matilda (Jill) Butala, age 82, of Glastonbury, CT, formerly of Yonkers, NY, entered into eternal rest in the comfort of her home on November 7, 2012 after a prolonged illness with Alzheimer's. She was the beloved wife of John Butala for 60 years. She was born in New York City to the late Herman Walker and Valerie Niederdorfer and graduated from Walton High School in 1948. Jill dedicated herself to raising her four children with her husband in Yonkers, and subsequently re-entered the workforce as a secretary. She retired after 20 years at Kraft Foods as an executive secretary and enjoyed a second career as a travel agent, taking numerous trips with her husband. John and Jill retired to Glastonbury in 1995. Jill volunteered her time as a member of the Altar Society at St. Anthony's Church in Yonkers and St. Paul's Church in Glastonbury; a girl scout leader; voter registration; Treasurer of Square Dance. Her hobbies included tennis, playing cards, travel, reading, square dance, fitness, cooking, and baking and was active with the Senior Center. Jill was a devoted grandmother, and enjoyed cooking dinners and holiday meals for her family. Jill is predeceased by her brother, Herman J Walker and his wife Elva. She is survived by her four children Stephen Butala and wife Carol; Valerie Perruzza and husband Albert; Christine Croll; John Butala and wife Patrice. She also leaves behind her loving grandchildren Tom and Will Butala; Stephanie, Paul and Christopher Perruzza; Stephen, Lauren and Emily Croll; Mary Grace, Michael and Danny Butala. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday Nov. 12 at 10am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Sunday, Nov. 11 from 2-5pm. Her family is thankful for the loving, compassionate care and dedication of her personal caregiver and to Glastonbury VNA Hospice.
