Obituary of Frank Martin Reichenbach
Frank Martin “Marty” Reichenbach, 85, of Manchester, CT, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, after battling dementia for the past few years.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy (Johnson) Reichenbach; sons Kurt D. Reichenbach of East Hampton, CT; and Carl M. Reichenbach (Christine) of Southbury, CT; and three grandchildren, Evan, Cameron, and Henry.
Born in Waterbury, CT on April 6, 1934 to Frank Reichenbach, M.D. and Ellen Olsen Reichenbach, he was raised in Watertown, CT. He was a proud alumnus of both The Taft School, graduating in 1952, and Tufts University, earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1956. He earned his MBA from University of Hartford in 1970.
While at Tufts, he was accepted into the USAF ROTC program, and was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. After graduating, he began his career at Pratt & Whitney on the Instrumentation and Vibration team. In 1957 he was commissioned in the Air Force as a Communications Officer. During his commission in the Air Force, he served at bases across the globe, from Scott AFB and Lackland AFB, to bases on Okinawa and Kume Shima. He was released from active duty in 1960, and returned to his job at Pratt & Whitney, retiring in 1993 after 37 years with the company.
During retirement, he spent time in Sarasota, FL, and traveled to many parts of the world. Annual family vacations to Cape Cod were also a favorite.
He was a Mason, at Columbia Lodge in Glastonbury, and a member of the Scottish Rite.
He was a member of the Train Collectors Association (TCA), and an avid collector of antique toy trains, amassing a collection of Lionel, Ives, American Standard, Marx, and Weeden toys and trains. His passion for understanding the history of the manufacturers and models of trains lead to his role as editor of Greenberg’s Guide to Ives Trains, Vol. I & II.
Frank was predeceased by his Father, Frank; Mother, Ellen; and brother, David Paul “Paul” Reichenbach, of St. Petersburg, FL.
