Phyllis, as you know, we worked together for over 15 years at Intercommunity Mental Health Center.. As your supervisor and "boss", I know we disagreed at times about approaches to treatment and "pesty" administrative issues. Some staff peers didn't always like your working style and straight-talk about practicalities in agency procedure and philosophy. I always knew, however, you had the interests of patients uppermost in your mind and you'd fight for their well-being no matter what. You knew I'd always have your back as I was very aware that you were thinking of patient health and safety (especially with the monitoring of the breakthrough drug Clozaril and the need for close blood monitoring.) We were friends from the beginning and remained good friends when we both left the agency. You'd tell me things about growing up in Iowa and other things about your personal life heard by few other ears. I knew about your internal struggles and I hope I gave you the emotional succor and support you needed. I wish we could have stayed in touch in "post-ICMHC" years, and that never happened, and I feel a sense of sorrow and loss for that. My condolences to Lauren and Scott and their families.
