Obituary of Robert Boardman

Robert P. Boardman Sr., 82, of East Hartford, beloved husband for over 58 years of Helen (Grogan) Boardman continued his journey into heaven, Thursday, October 18, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital with his family at his side. Bob was born on January 13, 1930 in West Hartford, son of the late Mildred (Alexander) Boardman and the late William Boardman formally of Manchester. Bob spent much of his youth in East Hartford before moving to Manchester. He was a 1948 graduate of Manchester High School. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Europe. He was employed for over 36 years at Republic Steel in East Hartford, and later for the East Hartford Board of Education for 10 years. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union holding several positions including local President prior to his retirement. Bob was also active in the Hartford Labor Council for several years. He was a member of the Masonic Order- Hartford Evergreen Lodge #88, the East Hartford Elks, American Legion, and the Manchester Army and Navy Club. In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his sons Robert Boardman Jr. and his wife Andrea of Hebron, David Boardman of East Hartford, William and his wife Mary and their daughters Amelia and Caroline of Hebron, and his daughter Donna Boardman of Rocky Hill. He also leaves a brother William Boardman and his wife Joan of Niantic, sisters Beverley Tustin of Windsor, Vivian Crandall of Wallingford and Kathy Tomren of Kahlotus, WA, and several nieces and nephews. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling, especially the cross country trips they took when they were young. Later, his traditional Christmas and Easter celebrations with his granddaughters brought him much happiness. Bob's family would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors and medical staff that assisted him at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care over the years. Also, the family extends their gratitude to the East Hartford Fire Department Company #6 and retired Lt. John Leblanc for their quick responses and professional care that always brought comfort to their father. A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, October 22 at 10 a.m, at St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer St. East Hartford. Friends may call Sunday, October 21 from 4 - 7 at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
