Obituary of John Cornelius

John Anthony Cornelius, 90, of Glastonbury, died Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Hartford Hospital.

 

Born March 13, 1928 in Plymouth, England, John was the son of the late William John Lang and Marjorie Clarissa (Hill) Cornelius, who were killed in the blitz of Plymouth in 1941. He served in the British Royal Navy before marrying Rosemary Morgan in 1952. Soon after, John began his career as an aerospace engineer at the Bristol Aeroplane Company in Bristol, England. From England, they moved to Nova Scotia, Canada, where their daughter, Rosanne, was born in 1958. They first immigrated to the United States in 1960, and in 1962 moved to Manchester, Conn. after John accepted a job at Pratt & Whitney, where he worked for 30 years. He had lived in Glastonbury since 1989.

 

John is survived by a granddaughter, Jessica Dunham of Medford, Mass.; a grandson, Jonathan Dunham and fiancée Annie Gagne of Norwood, Mass.; and a nephew, Gavin Cornelius and wife Samantha of Bournemouth, England. He was predeceased by his wife Rosemary (Morgan) Cornelius; daughter Rosanne (Cornelius) Dunham; and brother David Cornelius.

 

Funeral service will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hartford Hospital, 80 Seymour Street, P.O. Box 5037, Hartford, CT 06102-5037. The Mulryan Funeral Home, Glastonbury is in charge of arrangements.
