Obituary of Stephen Romaniw

Stephen Romaniw, 79, of East Hartford, beloved husband of Patricia (Domain) Romaniw, died peacefully Thursday May 31, 2018 at home with his family by his side. Born in the Ukraine, son of the late Jakym and Ksenia Romaniw, he settled in East Hartford 42 years ago.  Prior to his retirement he was a service technician for Jason Soda Systems. Steve served in the US Air Force from 1959 to 1963.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman.  He loved hunting, fishing and playing poker at his cabin in Vermont.  He was a kind and gentle soul, always considerate of the needs of others.  “Everybody loved Steve.”  Although he had dementia, he was happy and always smiling.  He will be missed dearly.

Besides his loving wife he is survived by two daughters, Deborah Romaniw and Sandra Bertrand and her husband Scott all of East Hartford, two brothers Russell Romaniw of Hartford, Peter Romaniw of Newington and a sister Maria Swyntuch of NY.   Services will be private.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association, CT. Chapter, 200 Executive Boulevard, Southington, CT. 06489-1058.

We are sharing the following poem that gave us strength throughout our journey.

Do not ask me to remember
Do not try to make me understand
Let me rest and know you’re with me
Kiss my cheek and hold my hand.
I’m confused beyond your concept
I am sad and sick and lost
All I know is that I need you
To be with me at all cost.

Do not loose your patience with me
Do not scold or curse or cry
I can’t help the way I am acting
Can’t be different though I try.
Just remember that I need you
That the best of me is gone
Please don’t fail to stand beside me
Love me till my life is gone.
