Obituary of Jacqueline (Bernard) Greer
Jacqueline “Jackie” Greer, 86, of Glastonbury, beloved wife of the late John “Jack” Greer Sr. passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, April 24, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She had an indomitable spirit and had “full speed ahead” energy. She was never bashful about her point of view, and she was untiring in her care for their kids and home. There was never dust in the house nor leaves on the ground. She was born November 11, 1931 in Madawaska, Maine to the late Charles and Cecile (Martin) Bernard. She was the fifth of nine children. The family moved to Hartford when she was 10 years old, speaking only French. She attended St. Anne’s School and quickly learned English. There, she made lifetime friends – “The St Anne Girls”. She graduated from Hartford Public High School where she met her husband Jack. They eventually moved to East Hartford where they raised their four children. She became more involved and found comfort at St. Dunstan Church. She met so many wonderful people, including Sister Mary. She was part of the Church Council and became a Eucharistic Minister. Her friends say they enjoyed her wit and outlook on life. A loving and generous mother and grandmother, she leaves behind her 4 children - John Jr and Sylvia Greer of South Glastonbury, Mark and Rosali Greer of Glastonbury, Kevin and Lynn Greer of South Windsor, and Sharon and Joseph Novello of Rocky Hill, her 7 beloved grandchildren Kyle Greer of West Hartford, Ryan Greer of Washington DC, Scott Greer of Windsor, Rachel and Brianna Novello of Rocky Hill, Megan and Matthew Greer of South Windsor. Jackie was also predeceased by her brothers Martin (Irene), Richard (Madeline), and Charles, her sisters Mildred Gaboury (Henry) and Charlene Vannie, and brother-in-law Al Batista. She is survived by her brother Ron Bernard (Terry), sisters, Noella Keegan (Ward) and Marie Batista, in-laws Cathy Bernard and Richard Vannie, 26 nieces and nephews along with many long-time friends, especially Rose Morrisette, Lillian Roberts, Irene LeBlanc, Marie Pechusick, and Jackie Lower.
