Obituary of Susan B. Howe

Susan B. Howe, 66, of Glastonbury, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at The Hearth in Glastonbury. Born August 22, 1950, to the late Dr. Edward and Wendy Howe, in Hartford, Susie spent much of her childhood in West Hartford and many happy summers vacationing on Fisher’s Island and Lake Wentworth, N.H. After graduating Chaffee School and then Briarcliff College, her adventurous spirit took her to multiple cities. Among her favorites were Boston, Denver and New York. Her greatest achievement- and greatest source of pride- are her children: daughter Alexandra Parkhurst of Marlborough and son Quin Howe and his wife, Carmen of Wethersfield. Her 3 grandsons, Jackson, Mason and Owen Howe, will forever remember the gentle and playful nature of their "G-ma." Susie's infectious smile, quick wit and gentle heart touched all who knew her. She was an accomplished athlete on the golf course as well as the tennis and paddle courts. Her fun-loving spirit and humorous court-side banter led her to be quite a popular partner. In her later years, Susie became an avid pickle ball player. Not only was she a true athlete, she was known to be an all-around fashionable and classy woman. Susie loved spending time with her family and will be deeply missed. In addition to her children, she is survived by her brother Dr. Peter Howe and his wife, Laurie of Nebraska; sister Tracy and her husband, Dr. Daniel Welling of Marlborough; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Susie was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Edward and Wendy Howe; her brother Edward “Tug” Howe and his wife, Jocelyn Howe. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at The Hearth for their exceptional care and compassion. The kindness they all gave to Susie will be remembered in all of our hearts. The Hospice team from ECHN Visiting Nurses were truly wonderful, as well. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Susie's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org/donate). A celebration of Susie's life will be announced at a later date. For online condolences please visit www.mulryanfh.com.
