Obituary of Margaret E. Haas

Margaret “Peggy” Haas died on Thursday, February 15, 2024. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Paul Haas, Sr. Peggy was born in South Orange, NJ and was the daughter of William and Adelaide Patterson. She was also predeceased by her brother William and sister Adelaide.

Peggy had great faith. When you heard her praying you could feel the commitment she had to her faith. She provided a wonderful example to her children and grandchildren.

Peggy and her new husband Paul moved to Connecticut in 1954 and began a life together. She loved, admired, and supported Paul through many building projects and adventures. She carried herself with beauty and grace unless the boat was heeling… she did not like that. Peggy was the ultimate partner, helping Paul build a business and raise their family of four children.

Throughout her life Peggy was a champion at keeping tabs on her children and grandchildren. She called them all the time to see how they were doing, relishing their latest accomplishments, and making sure they were all okay. Later in life she felt bad that she could not keep tabs on her grandchildren and always wanted them to know how much she loved them.

Peggy loved her simple pleasures; hot tea with lemon and honey and sitting with her friends at Bonnet Shores. On her last visit for lunch to meet those friends she said she could feel the Holy Spirit in the room. She loved unconditionally.

Peggy leaves behind four children, Paul Haas, Jr (Doreen), Timothy Haas, (Gayann), Peter Haas (Vicki) and Margaret Donovan (Todd). Seven grandchildren, Catherine Jalowiec (Ryan), Andrew Haas, Stephanie Haas, Madison Haas, Benjamin Haas, Caitlin Donovan and Thomas Donovan. And three great grandchildren John, MacKenzie, and Keara.

The entire Haas family would like to thank the Hospice Team at Hartford Healthcare especially, Meghan and Courtney and Peggy’s caregivers Alice, Shelly and Jaleel whose guidance made her last days peaceful. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 20 at 10:00 in SS. Isidore and Maria Parish at St. Paul, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury.
