Obituary of Richard H. Inman

Richard H. Inman of South Glastonbury, completed his journey on earth July 6, 2023 surrounded by family and took his final journey home to be with his Lord and Savior. He is survived by his wife Sue, two children, Melissa Garvey (Jim), Rob (Kirsten), and his four grandchildren, Brendan, Kelly, Rachel, and Katherine.

Richard was born to Robert T. and Virginia Inman in Beloit, WI.  A mechanical engineering graduate from Georgia Tech University, Richard applied his love of math, science, and people to positions at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Engines, General Electric Large Jet Engine Division, and Knowles Atomic Laboratory.  His various jobs and sense of curiosity and adventure took him all over the world, including all six of the inhabited continents.

Aside from his love for adventure, sailing was also a passion of Richard’s and he was quite good at it.  He was part of a crew that won the Off Soundings race multiple times.  It also inspired his volunteering at the Mystic Seaport, helping to restore a 1932 schooner, The Brilliant.   Additionally, Richard had a love of history and tradition, which led him to serve on the local Chamber of Housing, as a docent at the Historical Society, and on the Republican Town Committee.  Raised in a Christian family, Richard was always an active member of the church, including tenures as a youth leader and deacon.

Richard’s family will host calling hours on Thursday July 13, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.  There will be a private funeral.   In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Glastonbury Historic Society, The Bushnell, or a charity of your choice in Richard’s name.
