Obituary of Margaret Meotti

Margaret “Peg” (O'Brien) Meotti, 97, of Glastonbury passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Meotti, Sr.

Born in New Britain, Peg was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Margaret (Gunning) O’Brien. She graduated high school from Mount St. Joseph Academy in West Hartford in 1946 and earned a degree in education from Teachers College in New Britain (now Central Connecticut State University) in 1950. Peg taught in the New Britain schools for several years.  She left teaching to take on her passion and life commitment of raising five unruly children with her husband, Joe.

Peg was predeceased by her first child Joseph “Jay” J. Meotti, Jr. in August 2025.  Surviving are her two sons and daughters-in-law Michael Meotti  (Pamela) of Seattle, WA, Tom Meotti (Sue) of Glastonbury, her daughters Mimi Meotti Walsh of Duxbury, MA and Edie Meotti (John McMahon) of Glastonbury, her nine grandchildren Matt Gino of Marshfield, MA, Aly (Kevin) Hoagland, Rachel (Ryan) Schneeloch, Liz Meotti, all of Glastonbury, Jack (Stephanie Berberich) Meotti of Sacramento, CA, Jay (Emily) Walsh of Kingston, MA, Sara (Turner Thorne) Meotti of Kirkland, WA, Mazzie (Sal DiTommaso) Meotti of Middletown, CT, and Laura Meotti of Brooklyn, NY and her nine great grandchildren Javon, Jaide, Akoura, Leila, Weston, Charlotte, Amelia, Emma and Cooper.  She also leaves a number of nieces and nephews that have been a part of her life since she was a teenager.

Peg was born, grew up, and started a family in New Britain but Glastonbury became her community and home for almost 60 years.  She loved life and the people that shaped her life.  Peg was widely known for her outgoing personality, Irish wit, loyalty, and love of family.

Peg was chair and member of the Glastonbury Commission on Aging, worked for the Glastonbury Housing Authority, and was active in the Democratic Party through many election seasons.  Peg was a very involved parishioner in St. Paul’s Church and led the St Vincent de Paul Society chapter there for many years.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 am at SS. Isidore and Maria Parish in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Family and friends may call on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in St. Paul Church.
