Obituary of Wolfgang M. Vogel

Dr. Wolfgang “Lott” Vogel, age 97, of Glastonbury, CT, passed away on December 30, 2025. Lott is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Christel, and by his devoted family: Bernhard Vogel and his wife, Margaret, their daughter Christine, her husband Steffen, and their daughter Erika; Barbara Crowe and her husband, Anthony, their son Parker, his wife Hilary, and their children Emmett and Hannah, and their daughter Sara and her husband Ryan; Lieselotte Jaime and her husband, Jean, their daughter Jessica, and their son Nicholas and his fiancée, Rachel; and Peter Vogel and his wife, Paige, their son Andrew, and their daughter Tracy, her husband Robert, and their children Oliver and Abigail.

Lott was born on March 27, 1928, in Grottkau, Germany. He earned a master’s degree in physical chemistry from the University of Göttingen and a doctorate from the University of Tübingen, where he met his future wife, Christel. In 1957, the newly married couple moved to the United States after Lott was recruited by the United States Navy to work on its rocket program. He later spent most of his career at Pratt & Whitney, where he worked on fuel cell technology and received several patents for his work. Lott was skilled at building or repairing just about anything. He pored over car-repair manuals, troubleshot electrical systems, and repaired plumbing with unwavering determination. His crowning achievement was the cottage he built in Charlestown, Rhode Island, where he did the vast majority of the work himself. The cottage was a testament to Lott’s ingenuity and work ethic, and it became the site of countless happy memories for family and friends for the next 50 years. In retirement, Lott maintained his adventurous spirit. He and Christel explored the South before finally settling on Jekyll Island, Georgia, where they spent many enjoyable winters getting to know the island by bike and on foot.

A Holy Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM at SS. Isidore and Maria Parish in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. For online condolences, please visit www.mulryanfh.com.
