Obituary of Geraldine Raia
Geraldine “Gerry” Raia, 78, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, surrounded by loved ones and her beloved dog, Pebbles.
Gerry was born on June 11, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Thomas and Philomena “Phyllis” (Fasolino) Raia. She was proud to have been born and raised in Brooklyn and loved sharing stories of her childhood, teenage years, and adulthood spent in her hometown.
Gerry was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her family. One of her greatest blessings in life was Pebbles, who brought her mama endless joy and comfort for the eight years they spent together. She never missed an opportunity to tell anyone about her “precious baby.”
After eighteen years, Gerry is finally reunited in heaven with her beloved and dearly missed daughter Denise Gonzalez. She was also predeceased by her husband, George Holfester; and John Gonzalez, the father of her three girls. She is survived by two loving daughters, Michele Rasmussen and her husband Tom; and Diane Mannino. She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren—Vito Mannino and his wife Alexandra; Antonio Mannino; Sierra, Kaitlyn, Kirsten, and Thomas Rasmussen, and Denise’s beloved child—who were the lights of her life. Of course, she is also survived by her furbaby Pebbles who misses her deeply and many other relatives and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Those who knew Gerry will remember her as fiercely loyal and protective of her family. She had an amazing sense of humor—always ready with a quick remark, a warm laugh, or a story that could light up a room. She found her greatest happiness in the simple moments—surrounded by family or cozied up at home with Pebbles.
Honoring Gerry’s wishes, no formal service will be held. In lieu of gathering, the family asks that friends and loved ones share a memory or a few words in celebration of her life.
Gerry’s legacy lives on in the love she gave so generously, the stories she told so joyfully, and the family and friends whose lives are forever brightened by her presence.
