Obituary of Joseph W. Sullivan

The family of Joseph W. Sullivan is profoundly sad to announce his passing at Hartford Hospital on August 19, 2025.

Joe was born October 5th, 1938 in Brockton, MA and was the son of Frederick J. and Lillian (Hamblett) Sullivan. He was the brother of Ann Glenn and John F. Sullivan; both deceased.

He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1961 where he was inducted into Pi Tau Sigma, a national Mechanical Engineering honor society. Joe retired from Pratt and Whitney Aircraft after a 38-year distinguished career.

Joe was curious and interested in many things; horses, sailing, antiques, and woodworking to name just a few. He was always ready to help a friend using his huge collection of tools and his knowledge of how to “do stuff.”

He loved his family above all else and was happiest being with them. His beloved wife of 62 years, Susan (Sheehan) was his very best friend and together they became the proud parents of Katherine and John. Our family continued to grow when Katie married Paul Sullivan and John married Kerrie Weston. Next came our Grandchildren…a never-ending source of entertainment and joy. Katie and Paul added to the fun with Meghan, Erin and Patrick. Kerrie and John added their daughter, Keara, to “the crew” as Joe liked to call us. Next came great grandchildren. Meghan and her husband, John Mendes have two babies. Charlotte is 2 and Connor is a new born. Joe was fortunate to meet him. Timing is everything!

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Patrick-St Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford, CT on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Please gather at the church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, we respectfully suggest contributions in Joe’s memory be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. or CT Children’s Medical Center, 232 Washington Street, Hartford, CT 06106.
