Obituary of John W. Gardiner, Sr.

John W. Gardiner, 74, of Marlborough, beloved husband of 55 years to Lynn (Napoletano) Gardiner, died Wednesday June 23, 2021 at UCONN Health Center. Born December 11, 1946 in Manchester, son of the late Elmer and Esther (Taylor) Gardiner, he grew up in Glastonbury, graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1965 and had lived in Marlborough since 1968. He owned and operated J. Gardiner Electrical Services in Marlborough.

Besides his wife he is survived by his son John W. Gardiner, Jr. and his wife Zelia of Colchester, a daughter Kelli DeBari of Columbia, a brother Leon Gardiner and his wife Gail of Hebron, a sister Nancy Quigley and her husband Dennis of East Hartford, a grandson Jacob John Gardiner, a granddaughter Chantel Saucier and her husband Justin, a brother-in-law Francis Napoletano, Jr and his fiancée Sheila Palmer of Maryland, 2 sisters-in-law, Shelly Napoletano Flynn of West Hartford, Jann Oliver and her husband Jim of New Mexico, 2 nephews, Galen Flynn and Jacy Oliver and a niece Maya Oliver. He was predeceased by a grandson Christopher Patnode.

The family would like to thank the dedicated caring staff at UCONN John Dempsey Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit for the incredible care they provided to John and the family. 

John will always be known for his love of family and friends and was in joy when spending time and laughing with them.  Each and every one of us share special memories of John, and when you think of him, celebrate those memories.  Remember that life is precious and should be lived to the fullest.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday June 30, 2021 at 10am in St. John Fisher Church, 30 Jones Hollow Rd., Marlborough. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery, South Glastonbury. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Tuesday June 29, from 4-7pm.
