Obituary of Arlene Clouser Dutton

Arlene (Clouser) Dutton, 90, a resident of Glastonbury since 1960, passed away August 17, 2017, at Hartford Hospital surrounded by loving family. Arlene was born in Juniata County, PA to the late Grace and Hobart Clouser in 1927.  She moved to the Philadelphia area in 1944, to work at Curtis Publishing.  She met her future husband, Elmer, and they married in 1951. Following a few years in Overland Park, Kansas, where their three children were born, Arlene and her family moved to Glastonbury, where her husband worked at Pratt and Whitney. She lived in her beloved home for more than 50 years.  During this time, Arlene started her career at Connecticut Bank and Trust, Realty Corporation, ultimately attaining the position of Vice President of Mortgage Banking.  She retired in 1989.  Arlene was active in her children’s lives and the community. She did volunteer work with the Connecticut Valley Girl Scouts Council, YWCA, and Christian Women’s Club, and in later years, Meals on Wheels, Glastonbury Business and Professional Women’s Associations, where she often held leadership positions. Arlene particularly enjoyed time with family at the cottage that she and Elmer built on Frye Island, Maine, where she instilled in her family a love of the state of Maine, the beach, and especially lobster.  She was a member of AHCC, Orchard Hill Swim Club, and former active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, First Church Congregational, and Glastonbury Square Dance Club.  She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed gardening, walking, lapidary and entertaining family. Arlene leaves her three children: Carol Gold and her husband Wynn of Cornwall, NY, Gloria Carlson and her husband Leonard of South Weymouth, MA, Robert Dutton and his fiancee Kim Morrissey of Marlborough, CT and her three grandchildren: Alison Gold and her husband, Kevin Kobasa of Peekskill, NY, Jason Gold of Norridgewock, ME and David Carlson of Boston, MA, her sisters Mildred Clark and Doris Armstrong, and brother Dale Henry, all from Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews. She was looking forward to becoming a great-grandmother in October to Alison’s first child. She was predeceased by her husband Elmer B. Dutton, brother Richard Clouser and infant grandson, Daniel Robert Carlson. Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 23 from 5-8pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury.  Funeral Service will be Thursday, August 24 at 10am at Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Avenue, Hartford, followed by burial at Green Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to:  The Village for Families and Children (1680 Albany Ave, Hartford, CT 06105) or Asylum Hill Congregational Church.
