Obituary of Judith J. Snow

Judith J. Snow, 78, of Glastonbury, CT, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2017, surrounded by her family at St. Francis Hospital. Judy was born in Chicago, IL on November 12, 1938. She was the oldest of 3 daughters of Edwin and Harriet Johnson. Judy and her sisters spent their childhood growing up in Alexandria and St. Paul, Minnesota. Judy’s father was a minister, and Judy played the organ and piano at her father’s church services as a youth. After high school Judy attended the University of Minnesota where she graduated with a BA in nursing and played the flute in the school’s marching band. After working in the nursing field for several years in Minnesota, Judy moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing from Boston University. Subsequently, she worked at Mass. General Hospital in the cardiac surgical unit, specializing in open heart surgery care. While living in Boston she met her husband-to-be David B. Snow. Judy and David married on November 14, 1970 and settled in the Cleveland, Ohio area where David took a job with GE. While living in Ohio, Judy and David started their family and soon Christopher and Matthew were born. In 1977, Dave joined the United Technologies Research Center in East Hartford, and the family relocated to Glastonbury, CT, where Judy and David lived for the next 40 years. Judy returned to the nursing field in 1985 when she became the school nurse at Hopewell Elementary School in Glastonbury. “Mrs. Snow” was well known to many Hopewell students until her retirement in 2006. Judy was an active volunteer for USA Swimming in Connecticut for over 30 years, first as a swimming official, and later as the Connecticut State Swimming Registrar. Judy was a 2 time recipient of the Connecticut Swimming USA Swimming Outstanding Service Award (1993, 2010). Judy was active throughout her adult life in the P.E.O. Sisterhood, recently in CT Chapter U, a philanthropic women’s sisterhood. Judy enjoyed the many local friendships she made over the years as swim mom, soccer mom, school nurse, and neighbor. But most of all, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up. Judy fought and won her battle with breast cancer in 2010-2011, and took great enjoyment in supporting other breast cancer survivors and breast cancer research. In her later years, Judy and her family faced the difficult challenges presented by dementia. Judy is survived by her husband of 46 years David, her son Christopher and his wife Rachel of Southington, CT, and her son Matthew and wife Kris of Leesburg, VA. She is survived by 8 loving grandchildren, Connor, Emma and Hannah Snow, Kieran and Callie Snow, and Ava, Dean and Ty Levin. Judy is predeceased by her sister Katherine and survived by her sister Joyce Murphy of Rochester, MI. The family would like to thank the staff of Visiting Angels, Maple View Manor, and St. Francis Hospital for the care given Judy in her final days. A memorial service in honor of Judy’s life will be held at the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury, 949 Main Street, South Glastonbury, CT on February 18th at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to be made to the Susan G.
