Obituary of Alyce Bernice Albrecht

Alyce Bernice Albrecht age 91 of Columbia, CT, twin sister of Albert B. Albrecht, Richmond, IN, died July 1, 2016 at Glastonbury Health Center, Glastonbury, CT. Born March 18, 1925 to Alfred Peter and Sophie Bernnard Albrecht, she spent her early life in Stratford, CT before moving with her family to Wilmington, Ohio. Alyce was valedictorian of her class at Wilmington High School and she attended Wilmington College, Cincinnati University, and graduated from Ursinus College. After attending New York University Medical College, Alyce enjoyed a successful career as a medical technical writer for major pharmaceutical firms including Merck & Company and Bristol Meyer-Squibb. Alyce adored the companionship of her Golden Retrievers and is survived by her beloved dog Brynn. In addition, Alyce had a passion for skiing. She was a professional ski instructor and was proud to have trained three generations of her family to ski. Upon retirement, Alyce served as a volunteer instructor with the Windham Mountain Adaptive Ski Program well past her 80th birthday. She treasured the many winters spent with her family and friends from the Watchung Ski club at her Ski House in the Catskill Mountains. Alyce was an avid traveler, with the highlight being a year spent in Austria upon her retirement. While residing in Columbia, CT, Alyce enjoyed the friendship and support of the community at the Bekish Senior Center. Alyce is survived by her twin brother Albert and his wife Nancy Albrecht, Richmond, IN along with her nieces and their families: Jane & George Yates New Castle, PA, Kathryn & Mark Borchers, Houston,TX, Julia &Todd Griffith Bethlehem, PA, and Amy and Charles Peters, Martinez, GA. Her cousins Nancy and Michael Sweeney, and Donna and Ed Sweeney, and their daughters Laura and Molly, of Hebron, CT, all of whom provided care for her in her later years, also survive her. Her other surviving cousins include: Mr. & Mrs. Philip Bernnard, Mr. & Mrs. George Andres, Mr. Harold Albrecht, Mr. & Mrs. Peter Albrecht, Mr. & Mrs. Jeffery Gerwig, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Franson, Ms. Cheryl Moore, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Moore, Mr. & Mrs. Richard Condon. A funeral service will be held at 6:30pm on Wednesday, July 6 in the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Calling hours will be from 5pm to 6:30pm at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
