Obituary of Gloria Annitto

Gloria Elizabeth (Corey) Annitto, 87 of Glastonbury, wife of the late Frank Annitto passed away peacefully in her home Monday June 27, 2011. Born on June 20 1924 in Norwalk, CT she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Corey. Gloria was a true "go getter" throughout her entire life. She was blessed with a good business sense and great skill for cooking delicious food and was never afraid of working hard. When confronted by adversity, Gloria managed to work through it and always strived to do her best. She was a standout basketball player and student at Norwalk High School. She met Frank shortly after business school at The Diebold Company in Norwalk where they both worked. They married several years later. Six children and a truck load of cloth diapers later, Gloria began working full time in the men's and carpeting departments at Sears in Hamden and West Hartford, CT. She left Sears to pursue a full time career selling real estate in the Hartford area where she had a tremendous amount of success. In 1982, Gloria decided she was finished working for someone and purchased Olga's Lingerie Shop in Glastonbury, CT where she would work 6 days a week until just two years ago when she decided to close the store due to the slumping economy. She was truly a hard worker but she was also a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Her family room walls and shelves are lined with family photographs so Frank and she would always be surrounded by the ones she loved. She would root for The New York Yankees but she absolutely adored Geno Auriemma and loved to watch UCONN Women's basketball. She was very proud of her Lebanese heritage and showed it in the spectacular Middle Eastern foods she prepared. Gloria was a determined and strong willed individual that always wanted the best for her family. Besides her husband, Gloria was predeceased by her brother Dr. Joseph Corey and sister Marion Corey. Gloria leaves behind her sister Lillian Nelson of Greenville, RI, Son's Mark Annitto of Weston, FL, Matt Annitto and his wife Nancy of Glastonbury, CT, daughters Marion "Sis" and her husband Leon Harmon of West Warwick, RI, Carole and her husband Bill King of Farmington, CT, Mary and her husband Gordon Zima of Terryville, CT and Margaret Annitto of Manchester, CT. Her 12 beautiful grandkids Christopher Zima and wife Jennifer, Kristin Annitto, Mark Jared and his wife Isabel, Michael Harmon and his fiancée Carissa LaPlante, Michelle Harmon, Brian King, Kevin King and his fiancée Katrina Simpson, Jessica and Kelliann Moylan, Taylor and Elizabeth Annitto, and three adorable great grandchildren James Waites and Ryan & Molly Marie Zima. A Mass of Christian will be celebrated on Friday July1 at 10am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., on Thursday June 30 from 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VNA, 103 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105.
