Obituary of Robert Chenard

Robert Eastman Chenard 93, of Glastonbury died peacefully Wednesday April 13, 2011 at the Glastonbury Health Care Center. Robert "Bobby" was born on December 27, 1917, in Biddeford Maine. He was the eldest living son of Napoleon Paul Chenard and Annie Isabelle Seavey. Bobby grew up in Biddeford, attended local schools and joined the Army Corps in 1940, just prior to WWII. He was stationed as a flight chief on the Alaskan Island of Attu. Bobby married Janet Dancause while on leave in October of 1942. Bobby worked at the Saco Lowell Shops until his cousin Conrad enlisted his help to operate the "Chenard Machine Tool Company" in Worcester Mass in 1958. Bobby, Janet and the boys left Maine and spent the next 43 years living in Worcester. Bob later went to work at "Methods Machine Tools" in Sudbury, Mass until he retired. Bob and Janet moved to Connecticut in 2001. As his favorite pastime, Bobby loved to tend to his lovely flower gardens and watch birds from his front window; they would congregate at the bird feeders he setup for them. Bob was a devout Catholic and family man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading. Bob's dry humor and thoughtful insights will be missed by the entire family. Bob leaves his wife of 68 years, Janet Norma Dancause Chenard of Glastonbury, three sons; Richard Chenard of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Martin and Cindy Chenard of Morganton, North Carolina; Peter and Victoria Chenard of Glastonbury, Connecticut; seven grandchildren, Todd Chenard, Jennifer Steinman, Jonathan Chenard, Catherine Chenard, Kristofer Chenard, Katherine Chenard and Erica Chenard; one great grandson Tucker Chenard. Bob is predeceased by two brothers Lawrence Chenard and Richard Chenard. Bob also leaves six siblings and two brother-in-laws; Francis Callahan, Alice Casavant, Philip Chenard, Beverly Mooney, Sister Ann Paul Chenard, Patricia and Don Pinette, and Raymond Dancause; numerous nieces and nephews mostly from the Biddeford Maine area. A Mass and graveside ceremony is being planned for the summer and will be held in Biddeford Maine. For online tributes please visit www.mulryanfh.com.
